How we walk alongside you

Care that fits your person.

Veterans have earned care that honors their service. We provide personal care, companionship and help around the home from caregivers who value what you gave.

VA benefits can often be applied toward the cost of care, and we’ll help you understand what applies.

Signs it may be time to consider in-home support for a veteran

  • Everyday tasks like cooking, laundry and keeping up the house have become harder to manage alone.
  • A parent who always prized their independence is now skipping meals or missing appointments.
  • The house feels quieter and lonelier since a spouse passed or old friends moved away.
  • Mail is piling up, bills go unpaid, or VA paperwork sits unopened on the table.
  • Driving to the pharmacy, the store or appointments has become a source of worry.

Noticing one or two of these does not mean a decision has to be made today. It simply means it may be time for a conversation.

We send more than caregivers. We send good listeners, gentle hands, people who notice the small things: the favorite teacup, the afternoon light, the stories told twice and loved twice.

In-home support from Golden Touch, veterans home care

The small things,
done with care.

Many who served would rather stay in the home they worked for than move anywhere else, and the right help makes that possible. Our caregivers assist with bathing, dressing, meals, errands and the everyday tasks that have grown harder, while respecting the independence and routine a veteran has earned. Just as important, we help families make sense of how VA benefits, including the Aid and Attendance benefit, may apply toward the cost of care, so paying for support feels less overwhelming from the very first call.

Good questions

Veterans home care questions Hartford families ask

How soon can care for a veteran begin?

In most cases care can start within 24 hours of your first call, and even faster when a veteran is coming home after a hospital discharge. Our Care Coordinator answers 24/7, so you can reach a real person the moment you need to make a plan. We ask for a four-hour minimum per visit and build the schedule around your family's days.

How do families pay for veterans home care?

Families cover care through private pay, long-term care insurance, VA benefits and Medicaid, all subject to verification. You will get a clear quote on your first call, so there are no surprises later. We are glad to talk through which options may fit your situation.

Can VA benefits help pay for in-home care?

Often they can. VA benefits, including the Aid and Attendance benefit, may be applied toward the cost of non-medical in-home care, subject to verification of eligibility. We will help you understand what may apply and gather what you need, so the paperwork feels far less daunting.

How do you choose a caregiver, and what if the match isn't right?

We take time to learn a veteran's personality, routine and the things that matter most, then match a caregiver who fits. Every caregiver works through our licensed, bonded and insured Connecticut homemaker and companion agency. If the match isn't right, we will re-match at no charge until it is.

Is this the same as home health, or is it non-medical?

Golden Touch is a non-medical homemaker and companion agency. Our caregivers help with bathing, dressing, meals, errands, light housekeeping, medication reminders and companionship, not skilled health services. When a veteran also needs skilled care, we work respectfully alongside their own doctors and providers.
