Home care in
Colchester, CT.
Golden Touch is now available to families in Colchester, from the village around the Town Green to the rural roads beyond it, and the drive down Route 2 from our Hartford office is part of every plan we would make here.

Colchester has no hospital of its own, so a homecoming here starts somewhere else: Backus Hospital in Norwich, about twenty minutes east of Town Hall along Route 2 on clear roads, Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, or Hartford Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. Closer to home, Apple Rehab Colchester is on Broadway near the Town Green, Complete Care at Harrington Court is also in town, and Marlborough Health and Rehabilitation Center is on Stage Harbor Road in Marlborough, the town next door. Knowing which of these your parent is leaving, and when, is what lets us start planning. What a Golden Touch caregiver takes on afterward is the non-medical part: meals, help with bathing and dressing, reminders, laundry, errands, and company through the hours the family cannot cover.
Most of Colchester is single-family houses, and the town's own housing plan describes the area outside the center as largely a bedroom community with a rural edge. That can mean a long driveway, a garage step or a basement stair, and a house where nearly every errand starts with the car, so the walk from the door to the passenger seat is often where a caregiver slows down, especially in winter. The village center is a different setting. The historic district around the Green, along Broadway, Hayward Avenue, Linwood Avenue, Norwich Avenue and South Main Street, is full of older Federal, Greek Revival and Colonial buildings, and in a house that old it is worth knowing exactly where the bedroom and bathroom are before anything else is planned.
The Colchester Senior Center is now in its new building at 15 Louis Lane, for adults 55 and over. The town's senior bus, for residents 60 and over, goes to the center, to appointments and on grocery and pharmacy errands. Its drivers work curb to curb and may not give hands-on help or go into the house, but a rider who needs a hand can bring a caregiver along. The Colchester Housing Authority runs two complexes for older residents, Dublin Village on Lebanon Avenue, a complex of ranch-style units, and Ponemah Village on Westchester Road, and North Woods of Colchester, also on Lebanon Avenue, is a 55-and-over neighborhood of detached houses built with the main bedroom suite on the first floor. Where the layout already helps like that, more of a caregiver's visit can go to the day itself rather than the stairs.

Questions from Colchester families.
We live well outside the village in Colchester. Will a caregiver really come out that far?
Colchester is one of the towns now open to new families, and living out past the village is not, on its own, a reason we would turn you away. What we will not do is promise a start date we are not sure we can keep. Colchester is about 36 minutes from our Hartford office on clear roads, and a schedule here may mean matching a caregiver to it first, so when you call we will give you an honest answer on timing and on which hours we can cover. If a discharge date is already set, have it to hand. Request a free consultation on (860) 393-1055.
How soon can a caregiver start in Colchester?
Colchester is newer ground for us, so we do not quote a start time before we have talked. On the first call we will tell you plainly how soon a caregiver can be in place for the hours you need, and if we cannot cover them, we will say so and point you to someone who can.
What does in-home care cost in Colchester?
Cost depends on the hours and level of care. Most families pay privately; long-term care insurance, VA benefits and Medicaid can help. You get a clear quote on your first call.
Can you provide 24-hour or live-in care in Colchester?
Live-in and around-the-clock care are part of what we offer, from one dedicated caregiver. For Colchester, tell us the hours you need on the first call and we will tell you honestly whether we can staff them.
Are your caregivers screened and insured?
Every caregiver is background-checked, bonded, insured and trained, and supervised by our Care Coordinator. If the match is not right, we re-match at no charge.
