Home care in
Mystic, CT.

Mystic is a village rather than a town, divided by the Mystic River between Groton and Stonington, and Golden Touch is available to families on either bank.

Measured from the drawbridge in the middle of the village, Westerly Hospital, just over the Rhode Island line, is a little nearer by road than Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, so a Mystic homecoming can start from either one. Four care centers with a Mystic address take rehab stays after a hospital: Apple Rehab Mystic on Broadway, Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on High Street, Pendleton Health and Rehab on Maritime Drive, and Avalon Health Center at StoneRidge on Jerry Browne Road. Those are places your parent leaves. A Golden Touch caregiver's work begins back at home: help in the shower, getting dressed, meals, laundry, errands, and someone in the house through the long afternoons. If a discharge date is already on the calendar, share it when you call. Mystic is new ground for us, so at that point we will be clear about when someone could realistically start.

Mystic has no town government of its own. It is a census-designated place whose main ZIP code is 06355, and it sits in two towns: Groton on the west bank and Stonington on the east. Each bank has its own National Register historic district. The Mystic River Historic District covers the Groton side, including much of West Mystic and High, Pearl and Cliff Streets, and it has many nineteenth-century Greek Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne houses. The Mystic Bridge Historic District on the Stonington side takes in the old shipbuilding village and Mystic Seaport Museum. Houses that old were rarely built with a walker in mind, so we look first at the front steps, the staircase and the bathroom. The other thing that shapes a Mystic shift is the drawbridge on Route 1, which lifts for boats through the warmer months, so a caregiver crossing from one bank to the other needs a little slack in the arrival time.

Which town services your parent can use depends on the side of the river. West of the river, residents use Groton's senior center on Newtown Road, under four miles from the bridge. East of it, the Town of Stonington's Senior Services are on South Broad Street in Pawcatuck, at the far end of that town, with workshops, social programs and help finding support services. StoneRidge on Jerry Browne Road is a life plan community with a Mystic address, for families weighing a move against staying home. For getting around, Southeast Area Transit runs the local buses, and Mystic has its own Amtrak station, which helps when a son or daughter comes in by train to share the load.

Getting to Mystic

Mystic has no town hall, so we routed the drive to the Mystic River Bascule Bridge on Main Street, the middle of the village: 54.9 miles from our Park Street office, about 77 minutes on clear roads, by Route 2, Route 11 and Route 85, then east on I-95 across the Thames. That is a few miles past Groton and well over an hour each way, and the drawbridge can add a few minutes more.

Questions from Mystic families.

My mother lives in Mystic. Does it matter whether she is on the Groton side or the Stonington side?

Not for whether we can help. We are available to families on both banks of the river. Her side does decide which town's senior services she uses, Groton's or Stonington's, and it affects timing, because a caregiver who has to cross the drawbridge plans around its openings. Mystic is more than an hour from our Hartford office and new ground for us, so we would rather give you an honest start date on the first call than a fast one. Request a free consultation on (860) 393-1055.

How soon can a caregiver start in Mystic?

Mystic is newer ground for us, so we do not quote a start time before we have talked. On the first call we will tell you plainly how soon a caregiver can be in place for the hours you need, and if we cannot cover them, we will say so and point you to someone who can.

What does in-home care cost in Mystic?

Cost depends on the hours and level of care. Most families pay privately; long-term care insurance, VA benefits and Medicaid can help. You get a clear quote on your first call.

Can you provide 24-hour or live-in care in Mystic?

Live-in and around-the-clock care are part of what we offer, from one dedicated caregiver. For Mystic, tell us the hours you need on the first call and we will tell you honestly whether we can staff them.

Are your caregivers screened and insured?

Every caregiver is background-checked, bonded, insured and trained, and supervised by our Care Coordinator. If the match is not right, we re-match at no charge.
